Engineers must consider possible solutions and analyze their pros and cons prior to selecting the best. The solution should also be able of meeting the requirements of the project (e.g. costs, materials, time and space).

It is beneficial to develop a prototype following choosing the best solution. Then tests can be run to find out how well the product does what it’s supposed accomplish. It is possible to reduce the development time of the entire project by identifying any flaws in the early stages. This also saves money in the future on fixing issues later.
